The Database & Information Systems (DBIS) Group is dealing with theoretical and practical aspects of data intensive processing systems.

Teaching aspects include various fundamental lectures, such as Information Systems, Foundations of Declarative Programming, Operating Systems and Systems Programming. Advanced lectures are offered in rotation. Topics range from Transactional Systems, XML and Databases, Compiler Construction to the Design and Implementation of DBMS or Data Warehouse Systems.

Besides sound theoretical fundations our research is emphasizing relevancy to practice and we are implementing systems susceptible of industrial application. The DBIS group, for instance, invented and maintains the high-performance open source XML database system BaseX.

Interested students are welcome to join our projects for their bachelor and master projects and thesis.
